Maurine Hannibal

Maurine Hannibal, age 88, formerly of Tecumseh and Lake Placid, Fla., passed away June 12, 2014 at Green Acres Assisted Living, Greenville, Mich. Maurine was born March 17, 1926 in Sand Springs, Okla., the daughter of Mitchell and Fay (Marrs) Dray. She was a 1944 graduate of Ouachita Parrish High School in Monroe, La., and attended Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, La. On January 24, 1946 she married Bill Hannibal. He preceded her in death in 2006 having celebrated 60 years of marriage. Maurine was an avid golfer and was sixteen-time club champion at Tecumseh Country Club. She was also a five-time club champion at Placid Lake Country Club in Lake Placid, Fla., where she and her husband were winter residents. She won the Michigan Senior Women’s title twice, in 1986 and 1989. In 1997 at the age of 71 she was club champion at both Michigan and Florida clubs. To add to her accomplishments she had five hole-in-ones.Maurine is survived by her three sons, Doyal Lynn (Susan) of Grand Rapids, Mich., William Lee (Delores) of Greenville, Mich., and Gary Dean (Peggy) of Whitesburg, Ga.; six grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; six step grandchildren and 10 step great-great grandchildren.In addition to her husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jack, Marty and Charles Dray; sister, Martha Dray Kirby and grandson, Jeff Hannibal.According to Maurine's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with Rev. Fr. Daniel Wheeler officiating.Visitation will be from noon until the 2 p.m. service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor’s choice. Condolences to the family may be made online at www.pursefuneralhome.com.
