Monita M. Fergus

Monita M. Fergus, age 85, of Britton, Mich., died March 31, 2013 from complications of Parkinsonʼs Disease. Monita was born April 7, 1927 in Blissfield Township, the tenth child of Emiel and Nellie (Downing) Wegner. After the death of her mother she went to live with her Aunt Minnie and Uncle Johnny Morey. She graduated from Blissfield High School in 1944, worked for Dr. Hefron and Dr. Allen, and retired from Ford Motor Company in 1982 where she was known for “Letʼs cut a deal.” She was the Historian for the Immanuel Lutheran Church for many years.On August 31, 1946, Monita and Franklin (Bud) Fergus were married at the Immanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. William Weinlander. Monita and Bud owned and operated the Britton Hotel for several years in the early 1960s.Monita is survived by Bud, the love of her life; one brother, Melvin Wegner; two half sisters, Susan DuBoc and Debra Harding; her son, Randy (Marlys) Fergus of Lancaster, Ohio and daughter, Carmen (Tom) Love of Onsted, Mich; granddaughters Tina (Kip) Sprague, Angie (Shawn) Rickly, Sarah (Jason) Vest, Mandy (Keith) Brusseau; great-grandchildren, Cooper Vest, Hannah Brusseau, Nathan Sprague, Taylor Brusseau, Hunter Brusseau, Mackenzie Brusseau, Eli Rickly, Colby Vest and Colt Vest; her special cousin and friend, Ruthie Feeney and her special caregiver and friend, Teresa Stockford.Monita was preceded in death by her parents; her foster parents; brothers, Frederick and Marvin; sisters Alberta, Lillian, Dolly, Anona, Georgiana and Josephine; foster sisters, Mildred, Toots, Lois and foster brother, Zoney.Grandma will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her kindness, her ready humor, the many ghost stories and fairy tales she told, what Dr. Currier did, and the monk. She created the most beautiful quilts, the best tasting pies, and she made each child feel like they were the favorite.Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, North Blissfield Highway with Pastor Gary Leking officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgeway Cemetery, Ridgeway, Mich. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at the J.
