Nancy Taylor Smith

On Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, Nancy Taylor Smith surrounded by her children and grandchildren, passed peacefully from this world. Nancy was 84 years old and a long time resident of Tecumseh, Mich. Nancy taught school for 31 years and retired from the Milan Area School District in 1986. Since her retirement Nancy spent much of her time reading and traveling. Nancy was also involved in many different aspects of her community. She served on the original District Library Board, the last few years of which she was treasurer. She also served on the Tecumseh Board of Review and its Planning Commission. In addition, to her service to Tecumseh, Nancy was also an archivist for MSU’s Hidden Lake Gardens.Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Charles M. Smith as well as her parents, William and Lillian Taylor.She is survived by her daughter, Sue-Ellen, her son, Chuck, her daughter-in-law, Carrie, and her grandchildren, Payton and Ry. Nancy is also survived by her sisters, Sharon Taylor and Mary Ann Shumway of West Brandywine, Pa.Cremation has taken place.A Memorial Service for Nancy will be Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church 9950 Ridge Hwy., Britton with Vicar David McCarty officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Brookside Columbarium. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church or Kellogg Eye Center at the U of M. Arrangements are under the direction of the Anderson Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
