New TCA season to host final ‘Rovers’ concert

Tecumseh’s Director of Cultural and Leisure Services, Shelley Lim, rolled out 2013-2014 season performances to look forward to on the Tecumseh Center for the Arts (TCA) stage during a presentation before Tecumseh City Council members on Monday, July 1. “The Irish Rovers are coming back to round out this year’s season, and it’s their Farewell Tour,” said Lim. The performance is scheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2014. “We’re so pleased that we are going to be a part of their final tour.”While TCA staff has worked hard on this year’s budget to keep expenses down, the touring season still has several entertaining shows booked. They include the following:• Nora Jane Struthers and the Party Line will kick off the season on Saturday, Sept. 14. Struthers is a singer-songwriter and Nashville performer who writes the music for the group and has produced a popular album called, Carnival. • Dragon Wagon, which has performed in Tecumseh before, will be back on the TCA stage Friday, Sept. 20.• Michael Malone performs PG-13 comedy and is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2.• Lightwire Theater, featured on the TV show America’s Got Talent, will bring its light show, including Darwin the Dinosaur, to the TCA stage on Saturday, Feb. 15 and the TCA will offer special pricing for children’s tickets. Lightwire uses dancers outfitted in electroluminescent materials to produce special effects for an unforgettable performance. Lim said the TCA will be offering some other special events this year including Vampire shorts in October, and a return of The Nutcracker, featuring local troupes, in December. “Another new event will be the TCA Short Film Festival which will debut in January,” said Lim. “People should stay tuned for more details on that.”These activities are in addition to homegrown entertainment, which includes the April Junk to Funk event, the TCA Big Band and Vocalaires performances in December and May, The Tecumseh Pops Orchestra and Community Chorus performances in December and May, and the Kiwanis Travel Adventure Film Series.
