New Tecumseh bar features food, live music, dancing

Jersey’s Tavern, a new bar and restaurant in Tecumseh, is opening its doors Thursday, Nov 20, with a ribbon cutting at 5 p.m., with the grand opening scheduled for Saturday highlighted by the Mojo Doyle Band performing. The new tavern, located at 828 N. Evans Street, at the corner of Evans Street and Macon Hwy., occupies what used to be The Zone. “The batting cages were not getting used as much as we thought they would have,” said Troy Wright, owner of Jersey’s Tavern. The project to turn The Zone into a tavern began in September.“If it wasn’t for Jeff [Jennings], this wouldn’t be open for another year,” added Wright. Jennings, who will be the general manager at Jersey’s Tavern, was the general manager at The Zone as well, and managed the location’s transformation. “I am excited to bring something that the community doesn’t have into it — just to add to the restaurants and bars already here,” Wright said. “It’s nice to use the old building.”The new establishment will feature a 400-square-foot dance floor accompanied by a 168-square-foot stage for live bands and DJs, corn hole games, darts and eight high-definition TVs. There is also a 1,600-square-foot event hall available to rent, which still has the original bowling alley as the floor. The bar will have domestic, imported and specialty/craft beers, mixed drinks and spirits and a menu offering hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, nachos and more. Most nights have an assortment of themes, specials and activities. Tuesdays are euchre nights. Wednesdays offer karaoke starting at 7 p.m. Thursday night is lady’s night, with drink specials. Friday is bucket beer night while Saturday has $6 pitchers. Sunday is game day with corn hole, darts and sports. “We hope the community comes out and supports us,” Wright said, adding that he wanted to thank his parents for helping with the transition, wife Nicki for being patient and Jeff and Pam Jennings for their hard work. The hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to 12 a.m.; Friday 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. The tavern is closed Mondays. You can find Jersey’s Tavern on Facebook and for more information, call 517.662.9314.
