Nine in running for city manager position

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, Tecumseh City Council met during a special meeting study session with Joyce Parker, Michigan Municipal League (MML) consultant, to narrow down the applicants for the city manager position. Originally, Parker was set to meet with council prior to the regular meeting on October 5, but had scheduling conflicts. Twenty-five applications were received for the position with Parker using the criteria set forth by council to whittle down the applicants to nine, which she presented to council.Acting City Manager Joe Tuckey said Parker provided council with anonymous information about the nine applicants, as several requested confidentiality. The information included college degrees, work experience, relative governmental experience and why they wanted the position in Tecumseh. At the Monday, Oct. 5, meeting, council will further narrow the list of applicants who will then be interviewed. Those remaining will have public interviews scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15, starting at 9 a.m. Each interview will last about an hour, with council asking questions prepared by Parker.Tuckey said he expects a decision from council by the end of the month, or at the first meeting in November. He added that council took no action at the Tuesday meeting. The MML was contracted to help the city find a new city manager after the former manager Kevin Welch vacated the position in July. Currently, fire chief Joe Tuckey is acting city manager.
