Odra S. England

Odra S. England, 90 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in his home with his family by his side.

 

 Born September 10, 1927 in New Tazewell, Tennessee, Odra was the son of the late William Thomas and Della (Stiner) England. He and his wife moved to Monroe in July of 1948.

 

 Odra served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Army during World War II. On February 16, 1946 Odra married his beloved wife, the former Mildred Williams, in Pineville, Kentucky. Odra worked as a journeyman millwright for Consolidated Paper Company, Dana Corporation and North Star Steel from which he retired in 1992.

 

Odra was a member of Union Street Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Trustee of the Building Committee. He always kept himself busy by tinkering in his garage, doing yard work and tending to his garden. He also enjoyed spending time at his second home in New Tazewell, Tennessee and wherever Odra went his faithful companion, his dog Pongo, was by his side. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family and grandchildren.

 

Odra is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 72 years, Mildred, two loving daughters: Theresa E. (Wesley) Powers of Tecumseh, MI, and Debbie Owens of Monroe, MI, four cherished grandchildren: Jeremy (Sheri) Powers, Jennifer Powers, Richard (Audrey) Owens, and Ashley (Kevin) Owens - Libstorff, eight treasured great grandchildren: Logan, Gabe, Garrett, Xavier, Jamairah, Eliott, Alex, and Kathryn, and two siblings: Lottie England of Monroe, and Billy (Pinkey) England of TN. He was also known as “Papaw to two special neighbors: Lily Bray and Addie DeFiore.

 

In addition to his parents, Odra was preceded in death by four infant children: Eddie, Jackie, Johnny, and Ronnie; a sister, Dottie Hux; and seven brothers, Robert, Carson, Arlie, Otis, Harding, and Noble England and George O’Dell. Visitation was held on Sunday from 1-7 p.m. in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161, where funeral services celebrating his life were held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Joe Bryant and the Rev. BJ McDaniel will officiated. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park.
