Olive Ann Ruettinger

Olive Ann Ruettinger, age 90, of Tecumseh, passed away January 31, 2016 surrounded by her family. Olive Ann was born June 24, 1925 in Saginaw Mich., the daughter of Sherman and Marion (Upton) McRae. She was a 1943 graduate of Battle Creek High School and then attended the University of Toledo. Upon graduation, she went to teach at Ida schools. It was there she met the love of her life, Melvin “Bud” Ruettinger. They were married June 25, 1950 and enjoyed a loving marriage until his passing on November 19, 1985.

They owned and operated the A & W Drive-In in Tecumseh for many years and retired in 1984. Bud and Olive Ann then spent the winter months in Palmetto, Fla., and she continued to do so until her health prevented her from making the trip in 2013.

She enjoyed attending U of M football games, U of T football games and spending time at her cottage on Vineyard Lake.

She was a member of the Tecumseh Monday Club, Tecumseh Business and Professional Women, PEO, Abbi Evans chapter of the DAR and the Tecumseh Order of the Eastern Star. She held many offices in these groups.

Olive Ann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Judith Rumpf of Adrian; grandchildren, Ronnee Rumpf, Christopher (Linda) Rumpf and Daniel Rumpf; great grandchildren, Kyle and Kari Lawson, Madison, Jacob, Brock, Zachary and Aaron Rumpf, Jacob Hunter and Jessie Francis and great-great-grandson, Emmett Francis.

In addition to her husband, Melvin “Bud,” she was preceded in death by her parents and twin brother, James in WWII.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with Rev. Gordon Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Battle Creek, Mich.

Visitation was at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3. 2016 with an Eastern Star Memorial Service conducted by the Tecumseh Chapter No. 51 O.E.S. at 7 p.m.
