Papa’s Coney Island plans summer opening in plaza

Late this summer, Papa’s Coney Island will be serving the Tecumseh community. With the original location beginning in Adrian, Papa’s Coney Island will now have a second restaurant in the Tecumseh Plaza. It will be the first Coney Island located in Tecumseh.Owner Regina Hernandez is excited to serve the Tecumseh public. “Tecumseh seems like a really good town. My family goes to Tecumseh quite often and we know the city has good schools. My daughter plays soccer there, and through the soccer teams I met such a great, nice group of people. We want to be very successful and bring something new to Tecumseh.”The restaurant will have breakfast, lunch and dinner available all day, and will serve a variety of items such as Mexican food, pasta, sandwiches and fresh salads. They will also serve 99-cent Coney dogs. Papa’s Coney Island will offer catering and delivery for the Tecumseh area as well, for parties and local events. “The Tecumseh menu will have more items than we do at our current location in Adrian. We have great breakfast, Mexican food, really good tacos, and great cod fish for all-you-can-eat fish nights,” Hernandez stated.Regina and her husband Isidro opened the original Adrian location of Papa’s Coney Island five years ago in 2010. “We started it with just the two of us, my husband and I. A couple family members work here now, including our daughter,” Hernandez said. The Hernandez family decided to open their own Coney restaurant after enjoying the food of most Coney Islands, but wanted something different. “We’ve always liked Coney Island restaurants, but we wanted to make a Coney Island that stands out with lots of different foods. We wanted to offer things that other Coneys don’t have, like great Mexican food,” Hernandez said.Hernandez adds that Papa’s Coney Island is a great alternative for families who can’t decide what they want to eat, or who have picky eaters. “We serve breakfast all day, which is good for families that come in. Sometimes we have large families of eight or more that eat at our restaurant, and everybody is happy because the menu is so large and everyone can get something different.”The restaurant is currently searching for new employees to work at the Tecumseh location. “We’re looking for new employees, cooks, and waitresses for our new location. We’ll be doing some of the training at our location in Adrian to get workers ready to serve in Tecumseh,” Hernandez said. The original Papa’s Coney Island is based in Adrian at 2275 E. U.S. 223, and is open Monday through Saturday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. The new Papa’s Coney Island in Tecumseh will have a grand opening at the end of the summer. Normal business hours will run from Saturday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
