Patriots’ girls grind out win over Clinton

Britton Deerfield’s varsity girls basketball team picked up a 49-38 Tri-County Conference victory against Clinton at Deerfield on Tuesday, Feb. 5. “It was another grind-it-out win for us tonight,” said BD coach Craig Tanis. “We had a total team effort defensively and we rebounded the ball extremely well.” Cambria Handy led the Patriots’ offense with 18 points, 10 rebounds and four steals.The Patriots took a 12-8 lead after the opening quarter and closed the first half holding a 26-21 advantage.Clinton had three players score in the third quarter but went into the fourth quarter down 39-30.“Clinton played us tough but it was our defense and our rebounding that made the difference again tonight,” said Tanis.Abbey Meinert chipped in 12 points for the Patriots while Morgan Tanis had 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists. BD’s Janessa Handy added six points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and four steals.BD’s junior varsity girls also won, defeating the Redskins 44-37. Ella Nighswander had 18 points and five rebounds for BD while Marisa Kimerer added seven points, seven rebounds, five assists, and five steals.
