Patriots fall to Whiteford after win at Webberville

A 48-27 victory at Webberville on Tuesday, Jan. 29, improved Britton Deerfield’s varsity boys basketball team’s overall record to 3-7. However, the Patriots lost 69-57 in their following home game on Friday, Feb. 1 against Whiteford.The Patriots won all four quarters en route to the win at Webberville. BD held a 15-6 lead after the first quarter and finished the half with a 27-8 lead.Webberville almost matched the Patriots’ scoring in the third quarter but went into the final quarter down by 20 points (40-20). BD outscored Webberville 8-7 in the final quarter.Devin Gruber led all scorers with 24 points. He also added 12 rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal. Both Jordan Osbun and Tristan Pizana chipped in six points for BD. Osbun and Landon Handy each recorded five rebounds for the Patriots.Against Whiteford, BD finished the first quarter down 16-9 and never recovered. Whiteford closed the first half with a 31-25 lead.The Patriots were outscored 21-13 in the third quarter and went into the final quarter down 52-38.Whiteford was outscored 19-17 in the final quarter but had more than enough points for the win.Pizana led BD with 22 points, 10 rebounds and a steal. Both Handy (7 boards) and Gruber (5 boards) added 11 points for BD. The Patriots (2-7 TCC) were scheduled to face Clinton on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Deerfield. Results from the contest will be reported in next week’s Tecumseh Herald.
