Patriots host invitational

Britton Deerfield hosted its annual track Invitational on Friday, May 2, and had four boys record first place finishes. No team scores were kept in the event.Tristin Pizana placed first in two events, the long jump with a distance of 18’11-1/4” and was first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.7.Gene Ducek placed first in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:07.0 while Leighton Merritt was first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.1.Second place finishers for BD were Quest Gonzales in shot put (37’11-1/4”): Merritt in the high jump (5’8”); Dakota Heiden in the 1,600-meter run (5:12) and Ben Huff in the 100-meter run (11.8).In the relay events, the Patriots placed first in the distance medley relay (12:30) with the team of Dylan Murrin, Josh Papworth, Nate Papworth and Heiden.BD also placed first in the Blue-Red Relay with a time of 3:04.75.BD placed second in the Co-Ed Shuttle Hurdle relay (1:15.0) the 400-meter relay (47.7) and the 800-meter relay (1:37.5).Neither Whitmore Lake or Summerfield could defeat BD’s varsity boys as the Patriots ran away with two victories in the Tuesday, April 29, tri-meet.BD defeated Whitmore Lake 68-59 and Summerfield 75-62.Recording first place finishes against Whitmore Lake were: Quest Gonzales (shot put, 46’ 6”); Tristan Pizana (long jump, 20’); Leighton Merritt (400-meter, 51.9) Kolyne Suydam (300-meter hurdles, 45.6) and Dylan Murrin (800-meter, 2:16.3).The Patriots placed first in three relays, the 3,200-meter (9:20.9), the 800-meter (1:38.7) and the 1,600-meter (3:50).First place individual finishes against Summerfield came from BD’s Merritt (400-meter, 51.9): Tristan Pizana (long jump, 20’); Gene Dudek (1,600-meter, 5:13); Suydam (300-meter hurdles, 45.6); Murrin (800-meter, 2:16.3); and Josh Papworth (3,200-meter, 11:52.8).
