Perky Pantry offers full service with addition of Baker brothers

The Perky Pantry Eastside Mobil Station now offers full service and the Baker brothers. The April purchase of the downtown BP gas station owned by Jeff and Jack Baker eliminated the last place for full service in Tecumseh.Owners Ken Heers, Bruce Litchford and Bonnie Purkey decided to incorporate a full service option at the eastside location to serve all the people Jeff and Jack cared for in the past 29 years. They received inquiries from residents about the possibility of full service at their locations after the sale was made public. “We wanted to provide the service previously offered by Jeff and Jack for both gas and diesel fuel,” said Heers.“People are very glad we are going to extend the convenience of full service, including pumping gas, cleaning windshields, and checking oil, here in Tecumseh,” Litchford said. The decision to have the Baker Brothers come back to provide their services to the community was an exciting and positive decision for all four men. “We are excited to be here at Perky Pantry,” said Jeff. The location of the brothers’ gas station at Chicago Boulevard and Pearl Street has already undergone renovations. The gas tanks have been removed, although the Perky Pantry team is unsure how they will develop the site.“The gas tanks needed to be removed,” Heers said. “Everything happened so fast, we don’t know yet what we want to do with the property.”“It is not going to be a service station,” said Litchford.“We were happy the Bakers wanted to sell their business to us, and we were extremely happy they could come and work for us,” Heers said. “With their years of experience providing great customer service, they can help train our other employees.”One of the hardest parts of the sale for Jeff and Jack was not knowing where their customers could go for full service. It was a double relief for the brothers knowing full service would continue as an option in Tecumseh, as well as having the opportunity to provide the service.“It was a win-win situation for everyone,” Heers said.If the community responds enthusiastically to the full service option, Perky Pantry will consider expanding full service to its other service stations. “Full service was just not something we ever thought about,” said Heers. For now, those missing the familiar smiles of the Baker brothers on the other side of their windshields have the opportunity for full service and interaction with the brothers who are once again pumping Mobil gas.Perky Pantry Eastside is located at 413 E. Chicago Blvd. just up the street from Tecumseh City Hall. The station can be reached at 517.797.3015.
