Petitioners for backyard chickens report positive experiences
To the Editor,Over the past few weeks, my family and I have been out and about gathering signatures for the petition to allow backyard chickens in Tecumseh. This has been a really positive experience for us.Some days on foot and some days on bikes, we would go door to door collecting signatures. Each house we went to, we were met with smiles and encouraging words. Some people asked why my family would like to have chickens. Most wanted to know how the petition process works. Many times, people even asked us to come inside to talk. It was nice, just having conversations like neighbors used to do. We talked and laughed about our little town and found we had lots in common.I’ve lived in Tecumseh most of my life and I’ve always thought it was a great town full of great people. Doing this petition has helped me realize that’s really true. I would like to say thank you to each person who signed the petition, but more than that, thank you for inviting us into your homes, talking and sharing with us.
