Phyllis Jean Simon

Phyllis Jean Simon, age 81 of Tecumseh, died Friday, July 26, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 26, 1931, in Fayette, Ohio, to Ulna and Elvira (Rohrs) Borton. On February 26, 1952, in Assumption, Ohio, she married Herbert F. Simon, and he survives. Phyllis graduated from Gorham Fayette High School in 1949. She retired in 1993 after 20 years working for the Tecumseh Public Schools and the LISD as a bus driver. Phyllis was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Tecumseh, where she was active in the Ladies Aid, taught Sunday School and was a leader for Girl Pioneers for many years. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, playing bridge, tennis and golf. Phyllis also enjoyed quilting and sewing. She loved to travel and winter in Plant City, Fla., for the last 20 years. While in Plant City she was active at Hope Lutheran Church. Phyllis’ greatest love was the time she spent with her family and friends.In addition to her husband, Herbert, she is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Nat) Doliner of Tampa, Fla., and Kathy (John) Scobie of Blissfield; two sons, Craig (Dawn) Simon of Adrian and Mark Simon of Goodyear, Ariz; one sister, Brenda Humbert of Fayette, Ohio; one brother Roger (Pat) Borton of Fayette, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, James Borton and a great granddaughter Bella Scobie.Memorial services for Phyllis were held on Monday, July 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Tecumseh with Pastor Philip Krieger officiating. Visitation was held Sunday, July 28, from 6-8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Anderson Funeral Home, 1448 Short St. and on Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church.
