Redskins split with Patriots

CLINTON — Clinton’s varsity baseball team split a doubleheader at Britton Deerfield on Wednesday, May 11.

The Redskins lost the first game 8-1 with Kyle Staelgraeve going the distance on the mound. He gave up six earned runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out nine.

“When our team makes five errors you can not hope to be in the game especially against a quality team like BD,” said Clinton coach Steve DeGood. “The two innings they scored in were extended innings because of errors.”

Staelgraeve, Zane Woerner, Clark Nelson and Brandon Studnicka each had one hit for the Redskins.

Clinton turned things around in the second game and won 7-1 with Daniel Tomalak on the mound.

“Making zero errors in the second game made it a better game to watch,” DeGood commented.

Tomalak pitched the complete game and allowed one unearned run on four hits and a walk while striking out 11.

Jason Ahrens led Clinton at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Clinton’s Brandon Studnicka was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI, Jesse Fisher was 2-for-3 and Daniel Tomalak (RBI), Alex McIntosh (RBI) and Ryan Hoffman were each 1-for-3.
