Richard John Coury

Richard John Coury age 74, of Clinton passed away on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after a battle with cancer. He was born on October 13, 1943 in Adrian to the late Nicholas John and Doris Janet (Wells) Coury. On September 28, 1963 in Adrian he married Mary-Lou Bowman at Bethany Assembly of God by her uncle Rev. Bond Bowman.

Richard was a member of Grace Point Evangelical Free Church. Richard completed the Ford Apprenticeship Program as a Die Maker and worked there for 30 years until he retired in 1992. He attended Central Bible College Detroit Campus and was ordained in 1979 by the Michigan District of the Assemblies of God. Richard pastored the First Assembly of God in Chelsea for eight years and Clinton Assembly of God for 28 years. He served on the board of Lansing Teen Challenge and as a Presbyter of the South Central Section of the Assemblies of God. He collected toy tractors and farm machinery as well as an antique Allis Chalmers and a John Deere A. He enjoyed golfing and fishing. Richard loved the time he spent with his grandsons.

In addition to his wife, Mary-Lou, he is survived by his children, Kimberly and Les Jones of Adrian and Richard and Nicole Coury of Shelby Twp., Mich.; three grandsons, Alexander Coury, Cameron Coury and Ryan Jones; his siblings, Carol and Bob Schroeder of Harrisburg, Pa., Robert and Joyce Coury of Tecumseh, Mich., and William and Roben Coury of Kingman, Ariz.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Hector Garcia of New Boston, Mich., Patty and Onnie Young of Harrison, Tenn., Sharon Samora of Gulf Port, Miss., and Cheryl Coury of Cement City, Mich., and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Nicholas Coury and David Coury; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Judy and Jerry St. Louis; father-in-law, Llewellyn and mothers-in-law, Eva and Thelma Bowman.

Funeral Services for Richard will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017 at the Clinton Assembly of God Church with Rev. Bradley Trask officiating.  Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery Tecumseh, Mich. Visitation was on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at the Clinton Assembly of God Church and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Cancer Care Center or Henry Ford Hospital Kidney Transplant Center. 

Arrangements are under the care of the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes.
