Robert “Bob” Franklin Hayes

Robert “Bob” Franklin Hayes, age 90, of Tecumseh, formerly of Detroit passed away, Friday, March 16, 2018 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.  Bob was born in Washington, Pa. on August 6, 1927 to John Hayes and Laura B. Hunt of Greene County.

Upon attending Washington High School, he entered the U.S. Regular Navy on his 17th birthday and took boot camp training at Sampson, N.Y. Upon completion he was assigned to the U.S.S. Norris DDE 859 and served in China.

Bob was honorably discharged and returned to Pennsylvania.  He attended and passed a one-year electrical schooling in Detroit, worked three-and-a-half years at Cadillac Motors and retired from the Detroit Police after 28 and one half years.

On June 27, 1952 Bob married Joan M. Kane of Detroit, who preceded him in death.

Bob and Joan built their home with the help of Bill Mackey in Tecumseh.

Bob then became the building and electrical inspector for many surrounding townships.

Preceding Bob in death was his mother, dad, seven brothers, and two sisters.

Joan and Bob had four children, Lynette, Robert W., Laura and Marcilee.

At Bob’s request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service for Bob will be held on Thursday March 22, 2018 at 6 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes, with a memorial visitation being held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Military honors will follow the service under the auspices of American Legion Post #34 and VFW Post #4187.
