Robert “Bobby” Walter Luper, Jr

Robert “Bobby” Walter Luper, Jr, age 76, passed away December 6 at his home in Hardy, Va. Bob was born in Grayson County to Robert and Martha Wells Luper on May 17, 1941. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his sister Louise Luper Fitzgerald and brother-in-law Buster Fitzger-ald. He is survived by his daughters Julie (Arnold) and Kim (Joel); grandchildren Lindsey (Doug), Carley, Alex (Caroline), Amber and Evan; great-granddaughter Lydia; his sister Sue (Eddie) Luper Ellis, several nieces and nephews, and life companion Gayle Sutherland.

Bob graduated from Fries High school in 1961, as a star basketball player, where he was later inducted into the Fries High School Sports Hall of Fame. He then entered the U.S. Army and served in Alaska. He was very proud of his service to our country.

After the military he joined his Uncle Joe Luper in Michigan to learn the plumbing trade. Within a few years he became a Licensed Master Plumber and established his own business, Luper Plumbing, in Tecumseh, where he retired in 2011.

He was a member of the Tecumseh Country Club for over 30 years, where he had once served as president. Bob was an avid golfer and a dedicated member of the National Association of Left-Handed Golfers (NALG). He achieved many awards, including many state championships, and placed 4th in the World Association of Left-Handed Golfers tournament in Australia in 1988.

Per Robert’s wishes arrangements were made for immediate cremation. Services will be held at a later date.
