Robert Dillon Moore

Robert Dillon Moore was born July 11, 1930, to Robert H and Pauline Moore of Tecumseh, Mich. RD, as he was known by friends, passed away after a long fight with Alzheimer’s Disease in the Evangelical Home in Saline, Mich., on Tuesday, May 5, 2015. On May 15, 1949, he married the love of his life, Darlene L Johnston who survives.RD attended Kentucky Military Institute in Louisville, Ky., but graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1948. He attended Michigan State and the University of Michigan. He did work for his grandfather and father at RS Moore & Sons Coal & Lumber Yard and then set out on his own with the Tecumseh Sash & Door, which became Pallox, Inc.RD and Darlene spent many years traveling around the United States, Canada and Mexico in a motor home. Most times he included a hunting dog and would stop at farms asking the farmer if he could hunt on their land. RD was an avid hunter, hunting birds of all types, deer, moose and bear. He also loved to fish. The year he turned 80 he was very proud of the fact he had skied over 80 times during one season in northern Michigan.In 1996, RD and Darlene built their dream home on Lake O’Rourke in Gaylord, Mich., moving there to retire. They lived almost twenty years there enjoying the seasons in their home, hunting, golfing, skiing, making many new friends and just sitting watching the beautiful lake and nature.Besides his wife of 66 years, RD is survived by his four children, Carol (Patrick) of Parkersburg, W.Va., Robert J (Janis) of Summerfield, Fla., Elizabeth (Andy) of Littleton NC and Stephen (Marlene) of Saline, Mich.; a sister, Grace Wilson of Brooklyn, Mich., nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. and Pauline Moore; sister, Shirley Fielder and brother in law, Jim Wilson.According to RD’s request, his body has been cremated. Memorial services will be held Friday, May 15, 2015, at 11 a.m., at the Keystone Church, 3375 Saline Waterworks Road, Saline, Mich. That is the date of RD and Darlene’s 66th anniversary of their marriage. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Compassionate Care Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
