Robert James Murray, Jr.

Robert James Murray, Jr. age 91, of Adrian died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at Cambrian Assisted Living with his family by his side.

Bob was born February 22, 1926 in Bronx, N.Y. to the late Robert J., Sr. and Mary Virginia (McCarty) Murray. On Decem-ber 31, 1949 he married Virginia Knuth in Elmira, N.Y. and they had four sons, Robert III, Mark, Paul and Peter. Virginia passed away in 2013. In May of 1974, he married Marian Bajnai, who passed in 1987. In 1988, he married Mary M. (Fraser) Morin and she survives.

Bob attended Regis High School in New York City and graduated from Elmira High School in Elmira, N.Y.  He attended Fordham University and the College of the Holy Cross. Bob proudly served his country as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from University of Michigan Dental School and started a dental practice in Tecumseh with Bob Laidlaw, Jerry Wolf and Ron Curtis. Bob was in practice for over 30 years, retiring in 1979. He loved being a part of the Tecumseh Players for many years. Bob was very involved with the Kiwanis Club and the Jaycees. Bob was involved in numerous businesses after his “retirement,” including founding the Fabricare coin laundry chain and developing a Little Caesars Pizza franchise. Most of all, Bob will be remembered for his faith, warmth, care for others and outrageous sense of silliness.

In addition to his wife, Mary, Bob is survived by four sons, Robert J. (Edit) Murray III of Phoenix, Ariz. and their children, Bobby, Kathy and Gabriel; Mark (Mary) Murray of Adrian; Paul (Lydia) Murray of Belaire, Mich. and their children Hana and Erin; Peter T. Murray of Hot Springs, Ark.; a step-son, Michael (Karyl) Morin of Holland and their children, Sarah and Rebecca; one daughter-in-law, Rebecca (Colleen) Morin of Holland and her son, Samuel. Step children, Charles (Joyce) Bajnai of Midlothian, Virg. and their children Charles (Kelly) Bajnai III, Jennie (Matt) Linderman as well as Barbara (the late James) Bajnai Hosler of Monroe, Mich. and her sons J. Bradley (Emily) Hosler and son Andrew (Elizabeth) Hosler. He is also survived by a brother, John F. (Nell) Murray of Lorton, Virg.. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Catherine Selewach and Margaret Clayton, and one stepson, James Morin.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Adrian with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the mass. Military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post #34 and VFW Post #4187 will follow the mass.   Memorial Contributions may be made to Neighbors of Hope for the women and children’s shelter in Tecumseh. 

Arrangements are under the care of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.handlerfuneralhomes.com. A celebration of Bob Murray’s life in Tecumseh will be scheduled at a later date to enable distant family members and friends to participate.
