Roger F. Linger

Roger F. Linger, age 96, of Tecumseh, passed away January 31, 2015.He was born May 12, 1918, in Sand Creek, Mich., the son of Ernest and Lelah (Rogers) Linger.On December 20, 1941, he eloped on a moonlit night with Pauline “Polly” Pfister. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2006. Roger was a graduate of Tecumseh High School, Class of 1937. He participated in football, baseball, basketball, and track. Roger set the 100-yard dash record at Tecumseh High School, a mark that stood for 25 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. Roger was an avid golfer and bowler. While a member of the Tecumseh Country Club, he was the 1957 Club Champion, 1965 Hi-Lo Tournament Champion and shot a hole-in-one. He was a member of the Tipton Community Congregational Church. Roger owned Linger's Meat Market in downtown Tecumseh. He was a volunteer firefighter for the City of Tecumseh. Roger was well known around Tecumseh as the Holsum Bread Man.Roger was a Shriner and lifetime member of Tecumseh Masonic Lodge No. 69 F&AM. He was also a member of Tecumseh American Legion No. 34.Roger is survived by two daughters, Annette (Kent) Naugle of Tecumseh, and Barb (Tim) Clark of Linden; two granddaughters, Michelle (John) Foster of Tipton, and Courtney (Ryan) Roark of Linden; five great-grandchildren; Jacob, Olivia, Madelyn, Brayden, and Landen; and sister-in-law, Gwen Linger of Tipton.In addition to his wife, Polly, Roger was preceded in death by siblings, Max, Ledah, Betty, and Garrett; and grandson, Jeff Naugle.Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with Rev. Eric Hickman officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery, Tipton.Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2014, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.A Masonic Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lenawee County Humane Society.Condolences may be made online at www.pursefuneralhome.com.
