Romayne M. Hollenback

Romayne Mae (Hoffman) Hollenback went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2013 while surrounded by her loving family.Romayne was born on May 18, 1919 in Scranton, Pa, to August P. and Mabel (Evans) Hoffman. She was born into a wonderful home with four sisters — Arlene, Mabel, Dorothy, and Evelyn — and lots of cousins close by. Then one day she met the love of her life, Russell L. Hollenback Sr., at Scranton High School. After some courting, they were married October 12, 1940, spending nearly 65 loving years together. Three children were born to them — Russell L. Jr. (Nancy Shults), David A. (Sharon Rountree), and Suzanne (Clifford) Hill.Having lived in the East, they made their way to Michigan, and settled in Ann Arbor where she worked at the Willow Run Bomber Assembly Plant in Ypsilanti. After their daughter was born she devoted more than 25 years of service with Ann Arbor Public Schools including Angell Elementary School and Pattengill Elementary School. Romayne retired to Lost Lake Woods Club in (Alpena, Mich.) gaining a “hole in one” on the golf course and then the Villages in (Lady Lake, Fla.) to spend more time golfing, snowmobiling, beating people at Bridge, tackling the hardest crosswords, and she was a very avid reader as well as spoiling her nine grandchildren — Jennifer Knight, Sarah Bilkey (Chad), Jed and his wife Angela Harris, Kurt and his wife Alexis Pierson, Christina, and Amy — along with her eight great grandchildren —Natalie, Nikole, Jaedon, Iris, Ella, Taylor, Olivia, and Jed Thomas II — as well as her great great grandson, Jordan.Romayne was a life long member of the Presbyterian Church, and attended Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church. She was a Stephens Minister while at North Lake Presbyterian in The Villages, Fla. We all hope to match her wit, strength, and grace someday. Romayne was known for her holiday dinner and especially her famous mouth watering sauerkraut, snicker doodles and her rock cookies. In her final months on this journey, Gloria and Lisa of Hospice of Lenawee took loving care of Romayne. The family appreciates their love and concern. Besides her children and grandchildren she is survived by her sisters Dorothy Clarke (of Maine) and Evelyn Hughes (of Pa.) as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Arlene and Mabel, her beloved husband Russell L. Hollenback Sr. and her beloved son Russell L. Hollenback Jr.At her request, graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh with Jed Hollenback officiating. Memorials are suggested to Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Tecumseh District Library or Hospice of Lenawee.Condolences may be made online at www.pursefuneral-home.com.
