Royce R. Durkee

Royce R. Durkee, age 86, of Tecumseh, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012 at ProMedica Herrick Hospital under the gentle care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born March 27, 1926 in Addison, Mich., the son of Winford and Zadie (Horton) Durkee. He married Betty Jane Wescott on October 17, 1945. Sadly she preceded him in death March 10, 2010.Royce worked at Tecumseh Products for 45 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1991. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the Onsted American Legion Durkee-Sager Post No. 550, and F & AM of Tecumseh. Royce enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing, jigsaw puzzles and bowling.Surviving Royce are his sons Richard (Sue) Durkee and Scott (Lora) Durkee of Tecumseh, his daughter Cynthia Durkee of Tecumseh, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Betty, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and four brothers.Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 28 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home from 6–8 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 29 from 2–4 and 6–8 p.m. The funeral service will be Tuesday, Oct. 30 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tecumseh at 11 a.m. with Pastor Joyce Freund officiating. He will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
