Ryan Hagar

Ryan Hagar died peacefully, surrounded by the love of friends on January 2, 2016, just one day prior to his 50th birthday.

Ryan was a proud resident of Westhaven Group Home in Tecumseh, Mich. His roommates will certainly miss his presence in their home. He was employed by Goodwill Industries in Adrian for over 20 years. During his time at Goodwill he showed an immense work ethic. Ryan retired from Goodwill in 2015. Ryan was strong, had a great smile, loved to swim and to be around his caregivers and roommates. Although Ryan lived a life of darkness and silence due to his disability — those who knew him, knew how much life meant to him. He was able to overcome so many barriers just by trying harder — his will was strong. Ryan attended the Porter Center and the Michigan School for the Blind. He enjoyed the Special Olympics and Carter Rehab.

He learned to use tactile sign language, which opened the door for Ryan to communicate some of his needs. Ryan’s family includes ALL of the care staff, case managers, nurses, PT’s, OT’s, one-on-ones and roommates he has had over the past 49 years. We would like to thank each person who touched Ryan’s life. You kept him safe, happy and showed him what the love of a family should be. Thank you to the staff at Bixby Medical Center for your superb care and treatment of Ryan during his final day.

A celebration of life will take place at Adrian College, Herrick Chapel on Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 10 a.m. Fly high and free Ryan.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian.
