Skydive Tecumseh disregarded impact on Herrick Park residents

To the Editor,As long term residents of the Herrick Park subdivision we want to voice our concerns over the current controversy between Skydive Tecumseh and the owners of the Meyers Airport, Mr. and Mrs. Aalto. Our homes are virtually under the approach and departure areas, therefore we feel the negative impact of Skydive Tecumseh directly. The frequency of landings and take offs, as well as the size of the planes has increased substantially in the last five years. We are subjected to noise levels that are so high they are not only heard but felt, our windows rattle and conversations must be stopped. This has been the best spring in many years. Planes aren’t interfering with our daily lives. They fly too low and fast over our homes, usually with a 20 minute turn around. This schedule serves to maximize the number of jumps. The more jumps equal more profits and more disregard for our neighborhood. Holding the record for the ‘largest drop zone in the state’ isn’t necessarily good for everyone. The Aalto’s bought a business in good faith, with their own set of objectives. How is it feasible that others feel they have the right to dictate to their business plans? Our town is maligning them unmercifully in social media and the papers. If the economic health of Tecumseh is only dependent on Skydive Tecumseh then we are in serious trouble. Please understand, we don’t object to skydiving, rather we object to the planes and their general disregard for their immediate neighbors. It’s unfortunate that the current court case appears to be polarizing the community.Thank you for allowing us to share our opinions.Kathy and B.
