Steven Edward “Steve” Martin

Steven Edward “Steve” Martin, 65, of Newbern, Tenn. went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020, at Harborview Nursing Home in Dyersburg, Tenn. Originally from Tecumseh, Mich., he had been living in Newbern, Tenn.

Born Wednesday, Dec. 26, 1954 in Tecumseh, Mich., he was the son of the late Edward F. Martin and the late Thelma L. Ashenfelter Martin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Dean Martin.

Steve Martin attended RETS Institute of Technology in Ohio and was a graduate of Stautzenburger College Technical School in Ohio. He was a former Correctional Officer at West Tennessee State Penitentiary in Henning, Tenn.; drove a school bus for Tecumseh Public Schools in Michigan; former employee of Peerless Gear Manufacturing, Clinton, Mich.; worked at the GM Plant in Michigan, and school bus driver and maintenance for the Dyersburg County School System.

In his younger years he enjoyed playing the guitar and singing in the choir with the praise and worship team at his church. Steve was also very involved with the Prison Ministry at Northwest Correctional Facility in Tiptonville, Tenn.

A natural storyteller, Steve had a flair for sharing human interest stories, and telling you about the latest movie he had seen. He just loved to make people laugh and feel good about themselves. A simple man who accepted people the way they were, Steve always had a kind word about everyone. He also had a passion for buying and restoring older cars. Above all, Steve greatly loved his family, and he was greatly loved by them.

A memorial service for Steve Martin was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020 at the Maury City Church of God in Maury City, Tenn.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Burkeen Martin of Newbern, Tenn.; two sons, Mike Martin of Tecumseh, Mich. and Trevor Martin of Alamo, Tenn.; two sisters, Lori Martin and Shirley (Bryan) Van Benschoten and two grandchildren, Riley Martin and Carter Martin, all of Tecumseh, Mich.
