Suspects in robbery of Clinton Shell gas station plead guilty

ADRIAN - On Wednesday, March 4, Gary Lee Heldt of Britton and Cory Joseph Nangle of Petersburg pleaded guilty in Lenawee Circuit Court to armed robbery charges. Sentencing for the two 18-year-old men is set for Thursday, April 16.Heldt and Nangle admitted in separate plea hearings to using firearms to rob the Shell Gas Station in Clinton on Tuesday, Nov. 18. The hold-up for $400 has the potential to send the two men to prison for life if they receive the maximum sentencing for armed robbery.Heldt admitted to Judge Anna Marie Anzalone to using a shotgun during the robbery. Nangle said his weapon was a BB gun with the red tip removed to make it look like a firearm.After taking cash from the clerk, Heldt and Nangle left the scene in a vehicle parked at Eden Foods. The men then left the state for Alabama.The Clinton Police Department received a Crime-stopper tip that led them to Heldt. When Nangle and Heldt returned to Michigan they were arrested at the home of Heldt’s mother in Petersburg on Friday, Nov. 21.During the interview with police both men confessed to the crime. They both have been held in the Lenawee County Jail since November 21, with bond set at $1 million.
