TCA announces 2016 National Touring Season lineup

The Tecumseh Center for the Arts (TCA) has a variety of entertainment planned for its 2016 National Touring Season. With a tradition of presenting musical legends, Broadway stars, comedians and other entertainers from all over the world, the TCA is continuing that thread of tradition by providing four shows for the upcoming year. Comedian Godfrey C. Danchimah Jr., professionally known as Godfrey, will entertain crowds on Saturday, Jan. 16, starting at 7:30 p.m. A Nigerian by birth, raised in Chicago, Godfrey’s credits include “Zoolander,” “Soul Plane,” and the upcoming film “Three Days in Vegas,” opposite the Hollywood star, Nicholas Cage. He has performed on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” and is currently co-hosting the show “Bullseye” on Fox. Godfrey became passionate about comedy after his parents allowed him to watch classic comedy films from an early age. While he was doing impressions of his college football teammates, Godfrey realized his talent for comedy could be more than a hobby, and turned it into a career. Godfrey’s other credits include being featured on Comedy Central, as well as BET and VH1. Lightwire Theater will feature a new show, “Moon Mouse: A Space Odyssey” on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. Internationally recognized, Lightwire Theater uses electroluminescent artistry, musical scores and storytelling to create a their show. The show portrays Marvin the mouse’s space adventure as he travels across space on his homemade rocket, lands on the moon and meets an odd batch of beautiful and quirky creatures. Featured on “America’s Got Talent,” and called, “Absolutely Amazing,” by Rolling Stone magazine, Lightwire Theater has been known to bust barriers in storytelling.Twenty-first century Nashville is embodied in Humming House, a band that combines folk, soul, and bluegrass genres. Humming House will play at the TCA on Saturday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m. Their acoustic instrumentation includes combining the fiddle, mandolin, the acoustic guitar and bass in order to create a unique sound. With two vocalists, Humming House brings the best of the Music City to Tecumseh. Applauded by the Huffington Post as a “Must See Act of 2015” and “Grin-Inducing” by American Songwriter Magazine, Humming House is a musical experience that includes Nashville roots with a throwback sound. The Verve Pipe will have a show on Saturday, April 16, starting at 7:30 p.m. A native Michigan band, formed in the early 90s in East Lansing, the group is most recognized for their songs “Photograph,” “Hero,” “Happiness Is,” and their No. 1 single, “The Fresh-men.” After an eight year break, the band was asked to submit an original song for a compilation on a children’s album. That song led The Verve Pipe to create their own children’s music, and “A Family Album” was born. The album contains songs that are whimsical and fun, with lyrics that encourage kids to be superheroes. Family-friendly music is set to energetic melodies and memorable lyrics that The Verve Pipe has become known for. Members include Brian Vander Ark, Donny Brown, John Connors, Lou Musa and Craig Griffith, with a host of other musicians who contributed to “A Family Album.”Premier season tickets for the TCA National Touring Season are now available. For $100 audience members can receive tickets to all four of the National Touring Season shows, as well as entries to the TCA Big Band and VocalAires concerts. Tickets for each individual show runs $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, and $15 for youth. Premier tickets can be bought by calling the TCA directly at 423.6617.
