TCA to showcase new season on August 30 at I-75 Welcome Center

On Sunday, August 30, the Tecumseh Center for the Arts (TCA), along with local artists who call the TCA home, will present an afternoon of entertainment at the Monroe Welcome Center, Northbound I -75 in Monroe from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is an opportunity to experience several of the groups and events scheduled to perform during the upcoming 35th anniversary year at the TCA for the 2015-2016 season.The TCA Big Band & VocalAires, Tecumseh Youth Theatre, Kiwanis Club of Tecumseh's Film and Adventure Series, various musical ensembles and vocalists, as well as members of The Nutcracker Ballet cast are all scheduled to participate.The opportunity for the TCA to both entertain and inform travelers and Monroe County residents arose when TCA Technical Director Karen Bunch was delivering informational materials to the welcome center in Monroe. “The city advertises at the welcome centers in Dundee and Monroe,” said Bunch. “They started talking to me about the different events they hold during the summer. I thought we have some interesting things going on that would be great to share with people in the area. It was a unique opportunity to get the word out down there.”The combination of promoting Tecumseh and the TCA for a nearby community was an irresistible opportunity, according to Bunch. The goal beyond entertaining travelers was to make Monroe residents aware that quality live entertainment is available just a short drive from their community.“There are different groups that use the TCA and they’re going to be involved in the day,” Bunch said.There are 50 to 60 people who have committed to helping with the performances. Short performances are scheduled from the different groups throughout the afternoon, including a Big Band Performance between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.“It’s going to be a fun afternoon,” said Bunch. “It will be a nice little respite from the road for travelers.”The Welcome Center is located at mile marker 10 on the northbound side of I-75.
