Tecumseh wins Williamston Volleyball Invitational

Tecumseh’s varsity volleyball team picked up the Williamston Volleyball Invitational championship on Saturday, Oct. 24, after defeating the hosts in the finals. Tecumseh improved to 41-4-1 during the weekend tournament. In pool play, the Indians tied St. Johns, winning 25-19 and falling 25-16, and defeated both Columbia Central (25-18, 25-2) and Bay City Western (25-22, 25-14). In the Gold Bracket, the Indians defeated Saginaw Heritage in three sets (25-18, 23-25, 15-11) before sending Bronson home with losses of 25-22 and 25-21. In the finals, Tecumseh defeated Williamston 25-12 and 25-21. Tecumseh’s leaders included: Morgan Skelton (45 kills, 37 digs, 6 aces); Tyffani Bryan (28 kills, 5 digs, four aces); Kayla Wild (19 kills, 10 digs); Kamryn Powell (22 digs, 8 aces); Megan Freitas (16 kills, 34 digs, 1 ace); Emily Phelan (50 digs, 2 aces); Taylor Mareches 19 kills, 10 digs, two aces); Karmyn Wilford 22 digs, eight aces), Dani Nowak (2 aces, 9 digs); Claire Wilt (9 kills, 4 digs); and Alayna Polter (2 kills). On Tuesday, Oct. 20, Tecumseh (37-4) defeated Adrian in four sets (26-24, 25-17, 20-25, 25-18). Tecumseh leaders included: Skelton (18 kills, 18 digs, 5 blocks, 4 aces); Bryan (16 kills, 5 blocks), Freitas (24 assists, 15 digs, 1 block, 15-for-15 serving), Phelan (24 digs, 7-for-7 serving), Kamryn Powell (16 digs, 2 aces), Taylor Mareches (21-for-21 serving with 4 aces, 9 kills, 4 blocks).
