Tecumseh competes in D2 state track meet

Tecumseh High School’s varsity boys track team placed 34th at Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Division 2  varsity boys track finals in Zeeland on Saturday, May 30.The Indians started the meet off with their 3,200-meter relay team placing fourth in a new school record time of 7:56.02 with team members Jeff Case, Jimmy Terry (2:02), Noah Crots (2:01), and Tommy Mammel (1:56), earning all-state honors. Case ran his leg of the 4x800 in 1:55; Terry 2:02; Crotts 2:01 and Mammel 1:56.Mitch Meger clocked in with a time of 11:35 in the 100-meter but did not make it into the finals, finishing 14th. Meger earned individual all-state honors in the 200-meter with an eighth place time of 22.96. He clocked a time of 22.67 to advance to the final heat.Case ran his second best time ever (2:00.7) in the 800-meter to place 13th for Tecumseh. Mammel placed 25th with a time of 2:09. Both Case and Mammel were still recovering from their split times in the 3,200-meter relay.Gabe Lopez placed 17th for Tecumseh in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.3.Tecumseh’s 1,600-meter relay team of Meger, Nate Coffin, Mammel, and Lopez placed 11th with a time of 3:32.41. Adrian won the 4x400 with a time of 3:25.23. The Maples placed 11th overall at the meet.Nick Schnur tied for seventh place in the pole vault with a jump of 13’4” to earn all state honors for the Indians.Representing Tecumseh’s girls, Christina Sawyer placed 11th in the 1,600-meter with a time of 5:18.59.“Today was the perfect end to an amazing season,” said Tecumseh varsity boys coach Eddy Foley.
