Tecumseh girls, boys beat Ypsilanti, follow with loss to Lincoln

Tecumseh High School’s varsity girls and boys track teams were defeated at Lincoln on Thursday, April 16.Tecumseh’s girls lost 76-56 to Lincoln.Indian sophomore Christina Sawyer set a new record in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:36.26 smashing the previous record of 11:53.1 held by Jordan Harrison since 2007. “I am so proud and excited for Christina [Sawyer],” said Tecumseh coach Kim Foley. “I have no doubt we will see her name on the Tecumseh track and field record boards a few more times.”Sawyer also placed first in the 800-meter run (2:37.15).Diamond Tirado placed first in the shot put (32’) and discus (81’8”) for Tecumseh.Tecumseh’s 4x800 meter relay team placed first with a time of 12:30.05. The Indians finished second in both the 4x200 (2:00.27) and 4x100 (55.81) relays.Tahlor Clark placed first in the 100-meter dash.Tecumseh’s boys lost 79-53 to Lincoln.“Overall, I am happy with the way tonight went. A few key injuries aside, I thought we performed as we should,” said coach Eddy Foley.Nick Schnur had to pull out of the pole vault event due to a back injury and Tommy Mammel was nursing a sore back in the mile run and sat out of the 800-meter run.Placing first for the Indians were: the 4x800-meter team (Jeff Case, Jimmy Terry, Noah Crots, Mammel, 8:26.28); Chris Hawkins in the shot put (43’-3.5”); Case (800-meter run, 2:07.19); Jack Lacasse (3,200-meter, 10:56.84); the 4x400-meter relay team (Mitch Meger, Mammel, Nate Coffin and Gabe Lopez, 3:34.68).The varsity girls track team defeated Ypsilanti 72-57 on Tuesday, April 14.“It feels great to have one meet under our belt and one win. This was a great win for us however, we know we still have a lot of work to do to accomplish our goals this season,” said Kim Foley. Placing first for the Indians were: the 4x800 relay team (Ziemer, Emily Alderman, Alysa Hedrick, Katie Weatherford); Clark (100-meter hurdles, 22.0); Sawyer (1,600-meter run, 5:27, 800-meter run, 2:34); Clark (300-meter hurdles, 1:01); Alderman (3,200-meter run, 14:03); 4x400 relay (Clark, Hailey Whitehead, Othman, Chloe Stitt); and Tirado (shot put, 30’, discus, 96’2”).Placing second were: Naydean Othman (100-meter hurdles); Alderman (1600-meter run, 6:23); Ziemer (400m Run:, 1:11); Kelsey Hammer (800-meter run, 3:07), Stitt (200-meter dash, 29.2), and Elyssa Hedrick (3200-meter run, 14:53).Placing third were Brown (1600-meter run, 7:18); Kendall Brown (800-meter run, 3:11); Katie Weatherford (3,200-meter run, 15:34); Gilgallon (shot put, 28’) and Savanna Gilgallon (discus, 65’).Tecumseh’s boys beat Ypsilanti 80-63 and highlighted the event with a new school record in the 200-meter dash. Meger broke the existing record by one-one hundredth of a second, clocking in at 22.38.“I am very pleased with the effort from the boys tonight. We didn’t always have the fastest kids in each event, but they were not willing to give up,” said Eddy Foley. “The kids showed how big their hearts are tonight and they left everything on the track. As a coach, what more can you ask for?”Placing first for the Indians were: the 4x800 relay team (Case, Terry, Crots, Mammel, 9:22); Mammel (1600-meter run, 5:17, 800-meter run, 2:04); Lopez (300-meter hurdles, 42.7); Meger (200-meter dash, 22.38; Case (3,200-meter run, 11:14) and Josh Treadway (discus, 111’6”).Placing second were: Case (1,600-meter, 5:18, 800-meter, 2:22); Lacasse (3,200-meter, 11:34) Schnur (high jump, 5’4”); and Chris Hawkins (shot put, 40’7”).Finishing in third place were: Lopez (110-meter hurdles, 16.63); Joey Prochaska (1,600-meter run, 5:33); Jimmy Terry (400-meter dash, 54.7); Ben Lige (800-meter run, 2:24); Andrew Waite (3,200-meter run, 11:53) and Ben Lige (long jump, 17’4.5”).
