Tecumseh girls, boys place fourth at Jamboree 2

Tecumseh’s varsity boys and girls cross country teams placed fourth as hosts of the Southeastern Conference Jamboree 2 on a warm Tuesday, Sept. 23, afternoon.Tecumseh’s girls tied Adrian with 85 points but finished fourth using sixth runner criteria. Dexter placed first with 32 while Chelsea was second with 38.“Overall it was a good meet for us; the past three meets in which we faced Adrian, we had been finishing at least 15 points behind them,” said Tecumseh coach Jill Stockford. “Times overall were slower across all teams today, with most competitors running 15-45 seconds slower than their season bests.”The Indians were led by Christina Sawyer’s second place overall time of 19:58. Rounding out Tecumseh’s top six girls were Kristina Ziemer (16th, 22:15), Jessica Tebbetts (19th, 22:51), Kelsey Hammer (21st, 23:24), Elyssa Hedrick (27th, 24:53) and Kristen Randolph (31st, 26:04).“We’ve had three different runners finish as our fifth runner and we need to keep getting our fifth closer to the rest of the pack to get our team up in the standings as we hit the big meets of the year,” said Stockford. In the boys race, Chelsea placed first with 34 points while Dexter was second with 46. Adrian was third with Adrian 84 points and Tecumseh was fourth with 92.The Indians’ top five runners were Andrew Waite (11th, 18:13.1), Jeff Case (13th, 18:17.2), Jack Lacasse (21st, 18:51.4), Jarred Waite (22nd, 18:51.7) and Gabe Lopez (25th, 19:23.3). Both of Tecumseh’s teams placed 10th at the Jackson Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 20.Sturgis won the boys race with a score of 90. Chelsea placed first in the girls race with 71.The Indians’ boys were led by Lacasse (29th, 17:34.5, all-time personal best); Andrew Waite (34th, 17:43.4) Jarred Waite (47th, 17:54.7 personal best record PR), Jeff Case (55th, 18:04.5 PR) and Gabe Lopez (91st, 18:55.6).“I was very happy with the way the boys ran against a very tough field,” said Tecumseh coach Eddy Foley.Tecumseh’s girls were led by the third place overall time (19:20) of Sawyer. Rounding out the Indians top five runners were Ziemer (31st, 21:10), Tebbetts (43rd, 21:37), Hammer (80th, 22:48), Randolph (118th, 25:14) and Hedrick (123rd, 25:58).“This has been our strongest meet of the year so far!” said Stockford. “We had Christina [Sawyer] and Kristina [Ziemer] set all-time personal records. Jessica [Tebbetts] and Kelsey [Hammer] also had great performances with season-best times by 24 seconds and six seconds, respectively. I’m very pleased that we finished ahead of many teams that looked stronger than us on paper.”Tecumseh’s boys placed fourth at Blissfield’s Early Bird Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 16, while the Indians’ girls placed ninth.Andrew Waite led Tecumseh’s boys with an eighth place finish while Sawyer led the girls by placing first overall.
