Tecumseh girls, boys teams place fourth at New Boston Huron Invite
Both of Tecumseh’s cross-country teams placed fourth at the New Boston Huron Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 14, with the girls and boys each scoring 86 points.Chelsea won the girls event with a score of 29 while Grosse Ile was second with 61. Carlton Airport placed third with 84 points.Tecumseh’s Christina Sawyer has been on fire since joining the team this season. She won the race with a time of 19:46, beating a Chelsea runner by only one second to place first.“Christina added another victory to her amazing season so far this year,” said Tecumseh head coach Jill Stockford. “She ran with the top two Chelsea runners and then made her decisive move at the two-mile mark. She held off a late surge by the first Chelsea runner to win by a second. It has been so fun to see her have so much success in her first season.”Also in the top seven finishing positions for the Indians were Kristina Ziemer (14th, 21:34), Jessica Tebbetts (17th, 22:11), Kelsey Hammer (25th, 23:12), Emily Alderman (29th, 24:53), Kristin Randolph (30th, 25:18) and Elyssa Hedrick (31st, 25:19).“Kristina Ziemer and Jessica Tebbetts both had strong races today and will continue to get even faster as the season progresses,” said Stockford. “Emily Alderman bounced back well today after a rough couple of races to finish as our fifth runner.” Tecumseh’s Rachel Sanders (25th, 25:47), Katie Weatherford (30th, 26:27) and Zoe Meyers (46th, 28:35) all ran personal best times in the JV race.Carlton Airport placed first in the boys race with a score of 58 while Dearborn Divine Child was second with 73. Grosse Ile was third with 77 points.“I was very happy to see the team come together and run another great performance without Jeff Case who is out with injury,” said Tecumseh head coach Eddy Foley. “We had 13 season bests and 11 all-time personal records (PR).”Tecumseh’s top runners included Andrew Waite (7th, 17:32.9), Jarred Waite (11th, 18:03.6), Jack Lacasse (15th, 18:14.0), Lucas Manuszak (26th, 18:57.0), Gabe Lopez (27th, 19:07.0), Ian Thomsen (28th, 19:07.3) and Nick Rutledge (29th, 19:09.1).Tecumseh’s JVs placed second behind Chelsea (18) with a score of 87.Justin Breitenwisher placed seventh (19:35.0) to lead the Indians.“We had so many stand out performances, it is really hard to pick out one, but a couple that really stands out to me are Blaine Cytlak who PR’d by over 21 seconds as a junior,” said Foley. “I am also very proud of Andrew Waite, who PR’d by 13 seconds as a senior. Those seconds are hard to come by as a senior.”In its previous race at the Southeastern Conference Jamboree No. 1, held at Hudson Mills Metropark, all White and Red Division schools competed together in the same race.Tecumseh’s girls placed 10th led by Sawyer’s fourth place time of 19:22.The top three teams in the event were Saline (49), Dexter (82) and Chelsea (86).“Many of our girls were training through this race and most of the finish times reflected this,” said Stockford. “We did have a couple of bright spots in the meet including Christina Sawyer’s very strong fourth place finish.”The top five runners for Tecumseh included Jessica Tebbetts (46th, 22:30), Kristina Ziemer (53rd, 22:54), Kelsey Hammer (68th, 23:42) and Elyssa Hedrick (82nd, 25:14).Kristin Randolph (91st, 26:24) and Emily Alderman (92nd, 26:56) rounded out the Indians top runners.In the JV race, Sanders (97th, 27:00), Kendall Brown (116th, 27:55) and Meyers (141st, 29:10) led the Tribe.The top three teams in the boy’s varsity race were Saline (35), Ann Arbor Skyline (51) and Ann Arbor Pioneer (80). Tecumseh scored 268 points to place 10th while Adrian was 11th with 322.Tecumseh’s top five finishers included Andrew Waite (43rd, 18:21.9), Jack Lacasse (49th, 18:30.6), Jarred Waite (69th, 19:13.7), Lucas Manuszak (74th, 19:20.6) and Gabe Lopez (82nd, 19:50.9).
