Tecumseh girls win regional bowling title

The Michigan High School Athletic Association held its Division 2 Regional bowling tournament at Taylor Lanes on Friday, Feb. 27, and Tecumseh’s girls placed first to advance to the state meet while the boys placed fourth to end their season. The Indians’ girls will advance to the Division 2 State Tournament at Century Lanes in Waterford, March 6-7. Tecumseh’s girls scored 3,492 points to place first ahead of Kennedy (3,476) and Adrian (3,282), the two other state advancing teams.Tecumseh also had three girls, Kayla Wild, Brianna Wiemer and Courtney Herron, qualify for the Individual State Championship.Wild placed fifth as an individual with a score of 1,064. She had a high game of 205 to start singles competition. Herron totaled 1046 points to place seventh with high games of 205 and 201.Wiemer was the final qualifier, placing 10th with a total of 999. Her highest scoring game was 187.Tecumseh’s Kendall Herron placed 13th with a score of 984 while Whitney Hite placed 18th with 959.The Indians’ boys missed qualifying for the state team tournament by 21 total pins when placing fourth at regionals. The Indians totaled 3,712 points behind Airport’s third place score of 3,741. Kennedy placed first with 3,862.Evan Eldred qualified to advance to the Individual State finals for Tecumseh. He placed fifth with a score of 1,156. He had high games of 235 and 212.Cody Wilkins was just two spots away from qualifying He placed12th for Tecumseh with a total of 1,110. Tecumseh’s Justin Murphy placed 33rd with 1,029; Devin Hopkins tied two others for 34th place with a score of 1,026; Jarrett Oldeck tied for 38th with 1,011; and Trevon Hastings was 40th with 1,010.Tecumseh’s varsity boys (10-4) and girls (13-1) each placed first in the Southeastern Conference’s (SEC) White Division and had members named to the All-SEC team.The Indians’ girls had four members, juniors Wild, Wiemer, Hite and freshman Herron, named to the six-person All-SEC team. Tecumseh’s boys had three seniors, Cody Wilkins, Jarrett Oldeck and Eldred, named to the All-SEC team.
