Tecumseh goes 2-2 at Holland Tournament
Tecumseh’s varsity wrestling team travelled to Holland on Saturday, Dec. 15, for the Holland Team Tournament and went 2-2 for the day.
Tecumseh opened with a 70-9 win against Rockford, then lost 44-29 to Division 1’s Clarkston. The Indians came back strong for a 39-29 win over Greenville in a re-match of last year’s State Quarterfinals and lost their final dual 48-28 to Division 1’s Rochester.
Anthony Lesko (145) and Joe Rebotarro (285) remained undefeated this season with 4-0 records.
Luke Liuzzi (125), Cole Amstutz (171), and Preston Pelham (215) went 3-1 at the event. Tecumseh’s overall dual record is 11-2, 4-2 against state-ranked opponents.
The Indians’ varsity B team competed at the Monroe SMCC Duals, and went 3-2 on the day to finish third. Tecumseh beat Inter City Baptist 66-0, Southgate Anderson, 39-26, and BH Lahser, 57-10 before tying Monroe SMCC and losing on criteria. Tecumseh followed with a 42-29 loss to Blissfield.
Jared Waite (103), Austin Zamora (125), and Nate Brady (215) finished 5-0 for the Indians.
Tecumseh’s varsity wrestling team hosted a quad meet on Wednesday, Dec. 12, and beat both Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor Skyline.
Five forfeits against Ypsilanti gave the Indians a head start to a 54-19 victory. Ypsilanti gave up six points in each of the forfeits at 103-, 112-, 125-, 140-, and 215-pounds.
Austin Zamora picked up six points with a win by pin at 135-pounds for Tecumseh while Bryan Tripp won by pin at 152-pounds for the Indians. Also winning by pin for Tecumseh were Cole Amstutz and Jacob Moorer.
Nick Wyatt won by decision for Tecumseh at 119-pounds while Mitch Meger won by decision at 145-pounds.
Ypsilanti picked up its points with Kyle Abdellartif winning by Major Decision over Luke Liuzzi at 130-pounds: Melik Crawford pinning Ben Armstrong at 160-pounds (1:48) and Zaid Abdellartif winning by decision over Kolin Connors at 285-pounds.
Tecumseh slammed down 36 points against Ann Arbor Skyline with five pins and a Tech Fall with wins in the 103- to 135-pound matches. Mike Turner (103), Wyatt (112), Collin Trainor (119), Liuzzi (125) and Cody Marcum (135) each won by pin while Zamora (130) won by tech fall.
Skyline picked up wins by pins from 140- to 152-pounds. Jacob Coulson pinned Mitch Meger (140), Silas Richardson pinned Tripp (145), and Abdullah Abdul Basir pinned Ben Armstrong.
Tecumseh gave up six points at 171-pounds by forfeit but Preston Pelham followed with a win by decision at 215-pounds.
Skyline’s Cody Ziesler won by pin over Connors at heavyweight.
The Indians are scheduled to travel to Saline for a quad meet with Lincoln and Ann Arbor Pioneer on Thursday, Dec. 20 and have a featured three match event scheduled for Friday, Dec. 21 at home beginning at 5 p.m. at Tecumseh Middle School.
Tecumseh head coach Tony Greathouse’s No. 3 Division 2 ranked team will face the No. 2 Division 2 ranked Lowell to open the event.
At 6:30 p.m., No. 1 ranked Division 4 Hudson will face Lowell and the last match at approximately 8 p.m. will have Tecumseh face Hudson.
