Tecumseh’s varsity baseball team split its season opening doubleheader against Detroit Country Day (DCC) at Adrian College on Tuesday, March 31.The Indians won the first game 6-1 and DCC won the second game 7-6. Sam Benschoter was Tecumseh’s starter in the first game. He pitched four innings and gave up two hits while walking four and striking out eight.Spencer Cowen earned the win after throwing two innings. He gave up one run on two hits while walking two and striking out two.Aaron Luci pitched one inning on relief and walked one while striking out three.Leading the Indians at the plate were Jeff Arnett, going 2-for-3 with a run and Benschoter with the go-ahead single that broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning.“We walked too many guys today and made some key errors that we need to clean up,” said Tecumseh coach Tom Bullinger. “It was the first game and we’ve only been outside a couple of times, so that is expected. I think we have the team and the leadership to improve on today. We saw some good pitching and I liked our approach at the plate. We just had too many strikeouts with men on base that we have to get better at.”Evan Eldred was the starting pitcher in the second game. He pitched three innings and allowed five unearned runs on six hits while walking three and striking out three.Pitching on relief were Tecumseh’s Drew Morgan (2 innings, 2 unearned runs, 2 BB, 1K) and Trevor Willis (1 inning, 1 BB, 0 hits, 0 K's).Tecumseh’s offense was led by Alex Mukensturm (3-for-4, double, RBI, run) and Jordan Patterson (1-for-2, double, 2 runs). The Indians were scheduled to have their first home game of the season on Wednesday against Chelsea. All of Tecumseh’s varsity home games will be played at the high school field. Results will be reported in next week’s Tecumseh Herald.
