Tecumseh swats Hornets in game two

TECUMSEH — After losing 7-3 in game one of its doubleheader at home against Saline on Thursday, May 7, Tecumseh’s varsity softball team defeated the Hornets 5-2 to finish with a split.“We played really well tonight. Even with a split, it wasn’t like we gave the first game away. Saline was just a little better,” said Tecumseh head coach Jeff Nowak. “Kayla Wild pitched 13 great innings tonight.” Tecumseh lost the first game in seven innings with Wild recording the loss in the circle, giving up 10 hits while striking out four.Danielle Nowak had two hits including a two-run double. Maggie Foss had two singles and walked twice while Kylie Perkins, Claire Burnett and Hailey Wright each had two hits.“We had one inning in the first game where we gave up six runs and a couple of questionable things went against us,” said coach Nowak. “Then they string out five hits and before you know it, we are down six to nothing. All in all though, we looked a lot better today.”Tecumseh won the second game in seven innings with Wild (7-2) going the distance, giving up five hits while striking out four.Tyffani Bryan had two hits including a two run home run, her fourth this season, while Danielle Nowak had three hits and two RBI. Burnett added two hits.Tecumseh competed in Canton’s Invitational in Saturday, May 9, and went 1-2.Tecumseh lost 8-2 in the first game to Livonia Ladywood.Grace Maves (0-3) pitched seven innings in the loss.Danielle Nowak was 2-for-3 at the plate. Hailey Wright, Bryan, Paige Otto and Foss added a hit each for Tecumseh.In the second game, the Indians beat Livonia Stevenson 11-1 in six innings with Wild pitching a complete game and recording three strikeouts.Offensively, Wild was 2-for-3 with four RBI. She hit a three run home run, her first of the year. Danielle Nowak (1 RBI) and Morgan Skelton (3 RBI) were each 3-for-4 at the plate. Hailey Wright went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI while Otto added two hits.Tecumseh lost its third game 6-2 against Canton.Wild (8-3) pitched four innings and allowed three runs with two earned. Maves pitched two innings on relief and allowed three unearned runs.Bryan had an RBI triple. Kylie Perkins, Claire Burnett and Wright added a hit each.Tecumseh is now 12-7 overall.
