Tecumseh wins three SEC titles

Tecumseh High School’s varsity track teams won three events at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) White Division championships at Lincoln on Friday, May 8.For the boys, Lincoln placed first with a score of 176 while Chelsea was second with 119. Adrian was third (101), Tecumseh fourth (86), Dexter fifth (78) and Ypsilanti sixth (64).Tecumseh’s boys placed first in the 3,200-meter relay with the team of Jeff Case, Jimmy Terry, Noah Crots and Tommy Mammel clocking in with a season best time of 8:17.02.Mammel also placed first individually in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.21.The Indians also recorded three third place finishes. Nick Schnur was third in the Pole Vault with a jump of 14’ 0” while Josh McKenzie was third in the long jump with a distance of 19’7.5”. Jack Lacasse placed third for Tecumseh in the 3,200-meter run (10:42.95).Dexter placed first in the girls event with a score of 174. Adrian finished second with 126 and Chelsea third with 124. Lincoln placed fourth (100), Ypsilanti fifth (52) and Tecumseh sixth (51).Diamond Tirado placed first in shot put with a distance of 33’10” and was second in discus with 90’2”.Christina Sawyer placed second for Tecumseh in the 1,600- (5:17.69) and 3,200-meter (11:41.32) races. Dexter’s Alison McLean just edged Sawyer in the 1,600-meter run to place first with a time of 5:13.61. McLean placed first in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:24.16.Tecumseh’s boys defeated visiting Adrian 75-59 on Tuesday, May 5, while the Indians’ girls lost 89-43.Tecumseh’s boys improved to 3-2 in the SEC with the win over the Maples. “This was our first winning season with me as the head coach, and the first that I can remember since I have been on staff,” said head coach Eddy Foley. “The boys should be proud. I really wish I had that one point back from Chelsea.”Mitch Meger won the 100- and 200-meter dashes in 11.08 and 22.93, respectively for the Indians.Gabe Lopez placed first for Tecumseh in the 110- (15.82) and 300-meter hurdles (41.70) while Mammel placed first in the 800- (2:05.05) and 1,600-meter runs (4:45.05). Tecumseh’s girls were led by Tirado with a first place finishes in shot put (34'11.5") and discus (95’5”).Sawyer placed first in the 1,600- (5:32.45) and 3,200-meter runs (11:57.48), and placed second in the 800-meter run (2:33.88).
