Thieken hired as Supt. in Dearborn Heights District 7

Todd Thieken, Director of Curriculum and Technology at Tecumseh Public Schools, confirmed with the Tecumseh Herald Friday that he has accepted the position of superintendent at Dearborn Heights School District 7. He is scheduled to start July 1. Thieken, who has been with the Tecumseh School District for 12 years, according to Tecumseh Supt. Kelly Coffin, started out as the Technology Director and later moved into the role of Director of Curriculum and Technology for the district.Kelly Coffin said she received a text message Monday, May 19 from Thieken that he had accepted the position with Dearborn Heights School District 7. As reported by Press & Guide, Thieken was one of three candidates for the position and received five of seven votes for his appointment during the final round of interviews on Monday, May 19. “I do like that Todd has experience in the financial realm,” said Dearborn Heights School District 7 Trustee Phil Shannon as reported by the Press & Guide. “He has a strong sense of presence.”However, there were reservations about Thieken in the role. “I’m 100 percent against Todd. I can’t imagine having him represent my district,” said Trustee Virginia Morgan as reported by the Press & Guide. “I get the feeling it’s going to be like a football team — my way or no way.”According to Coffin, they are doling Thieken’s technology responsibilities out amongst current staff members.“We have a great staff that stepped up to take that on,” said Coffin. Coffin said that they are not planning to fill Thieken’s curriculum responsibilities. Instead, they are using curriculum coaches to fill Thieken’s role. Coffin confirmed that Thieken’s last day is June 30. “We’re very excited to see how things go for him,” added Coffin.
