Thomas John Golema

Thomas John Golema, age 67 of Britton, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. He was born July 27, 1946, in Dearborn to Peter John and Catherine (Surowiec) Golema. On January 19, 1974, in Ann Arbor he married Cynthia Lee Christner. Thomas graduated from Clinton High School in 1964 and from the U-of-M Dearborn Campus in 1977 with a degree in Industrial Technology. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam War in a peace keeping role. Thomas retired from Ford Motor Company as a Journeyman Millwright after thirty years on July 1, 1997. Working that time with Ford, he enjoyed the big Ford trucks. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Parish, an active member of the Tecumseh American Legion, the Knights of Columbus Council 9937 and the UAW Retirees Chapter 892. He was a mentor with the Britton Skip Program. Thomas was a Red Cross trained CPR trainer, and a Scout Master with Troop 623. He was a volunteer with the United Way. Thomas was active with the boys in their community sports. He cherished fishing, gardening, taking walks, and bird watching. He enjoyed the time spent with his family on vacations and holidays. Thomas was foremost a dedicated family man who loved his family and his cat, Pasha. He will be remembered as a gentle soul and for his wonderful sense of humor.Thomas is survived by his wife Cynthia, his son, David Scott (Rachel) Golema of Saline; daughter-in-law Lisa Golema of Jasper; a granddaughter, Evelyn Grace; and one sister, Bridget Catherine Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Thomas Peter Golema, a grandson, Sean Patrick Golema and two brothers, Ralph and Richard.A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 at 12 noon at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh with Fr. Daniel Wheeler as celebrant and Deacon Jim Nicholson officiating. Visitation will be on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m., followed by the Memorial Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lenawee Humane Society or the St. Elizabeth Knights of Columbus Council.Arrangements are under the direction of the Anderson Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
