Three freshman relay records broken by Tecumseh in win against Lincoln

Winning 99-57 in its Thursday, Sept. 24, swim and dive meet against visiting Lincoln was reason enough for Tecumseh High School’s team to celebrate but there was icing on the cake for the new freshmen joining the Indians. All three freshmen relay records were broken during their home meet. The Indians’ relay team of Emma Hoffman, Kamilla Linn, Veda Massnari-Thatcher and Ashlyn Clewis set new freshman records in the 200-yard Medley relay (2:03.83, was 2:04.98), 200-yard freestyle relay (1:50.57, 1:51.53) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:02.76, 407.22).“We’re very excited for that,” said Tecumseh swim coach Deb Followell. “That was the goal and the goal was accomplished!”The Medley Relay record had been broken a couple of weeks before however all three records hadn’t been touched since 2009. Rachel Wait was on the 2009 freshman relay team and she went on to win a state title in the 100-yard breaststroke in 2012.“They have the drive and definitely the heart for it so they have the potential to do what they want. They can set the limits and reach the sky,” Followell said of the new freshman relay record holders. While the freshmen set the records in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay, Tecumseh’s team of Karlee Marsh, Alicia Dusseau, Brynn Nevins and Ashley Dempsey placed first for the Indians with times of 2:03.53 and 3:59.84, respectively.Other highlights included Nevins also placing first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.86) and 100-yard butterfly (1:05.97) while Alicia Dusseau also placed first in the 200 IM (2:21.89) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.90).Abby Lawson placed first for Tecumseh in the 500-yard freestyle (6:25.29) while Marsh also placed first in 200-yard freestyle (2:00.46).Tecumseh’s next home meet is on Thursday at 6 p.m. against Ypsilanti Community High School.
