Timothy L. McKowen

Timothy L. McKowen, 76, of Naples, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017 at the Frances Georgeson Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born May 17, 1940 in Lima, Ohio, a son of the late F. Raymond and Marjorie (Kennedy) McKowen. Tim had been a resident of Naples since 2002 coming from Norris, Tenn.

Tim was preceded in death by his wife Nancy (Ralston) McKowen in 2013 and his sister-in-law Lois (Burlsman) McKowen. He is survived by his four children, Douglas J. (Stephanie) McKowen, John D. (Christine) McKowen, David M. (Cheryl) McKowen and Kelly A. (Robert) Skinner; his two brothers, James Q. McKowen and Michael J. (Barbara) McKowen; and his 10 grandchildren, Shannon, Lauren, John, Abigail, Emily, Parker, Barret, Olivia, Aubrey, and Caden; and several nieces and nephews.

Tim attended Ohio Northern College and then served his country in the U.S. Army. He began his career with the Fruehauf Trailer Corporation and retired from the Wabash National Company as their Director of Manufacturing after a 42-year tenure. His position took him to many cities and states throughout his long career.

Tim was a formidable golfer and bowler whose swing and delivery were strong. He was passionate about service, from the Army, to 66 years of volunteer work for the Catholic Church ranging from altar boy, to lectern, to baritone in the choir; the list goes on. Even after retirement Tim’s service-oriented nature led him to a seat on the board of Islandwalk Homeowners Association, where he served as treasurer for eight years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Naples and was currently a consultant with the expansion committee there.

Dad, your family will miss your big personality, your limitless affection, and your rock-steady guidance, but you are with Mom now, and three years away from her was enough.

A Mass of Catholic Burial was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 625 111th Avenue N., Naples, Fla., 34108. Inurnment followed in St. John the Evangelist’s Memorial Garden.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations in his name be directed to the American Cancer Society, 5020 Tamiami Trail N. No. 108, Naples, Fla., 34103.
