Tommy Gainey

Tommy Gainey, of Tecumseh, passed away on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, in his home. He was born on December 29, 1941, in Laurinburg, N.C., the son of Marion Thomas Sr., and Marie (Morton) Gainey. He married Pat Norris in 1961, and married Robin Travis in Wauseon, Ohio on October 24, 1989. Tommy retired from the Mailroom at the University of Michigan and bartended at the Wrong Way Pub in Tecumseh for twelve years. Tommy proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a former president of the Tecumseh Fraternal Order of the Eagles and a former member of SAL Post No. 34. Tommy enjoyed shooting pool, reading western novels and playing cards. He loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed.In addition to his wife Robin, Tommy is survived by his children; three sons, Tom (Terry) Gainey of McColl, S.C., Robert (April) Nickleson of Adrian and Adam Nickelson of Tecumseh; two daughters, Anna (David) Smith of Laurinberg, N.C., and Kim Nickelson of Tecumseh; three sisters, Hope (Luke) Sommerlot of Buckeye, Ariz., Susan (John) Locklear of Red Springs, N.C., and Jane (Rick) Stevens of Ypsilanti, Mich.; six grandchildren, Savannah and Hailey Gainey, Casey Roque, Laura Smith, and Damian and Dominik Nickelson; one great grandchild Colton Gainey, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by two brothers and a granddaughter. Visitation was held at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes on Monday, Nov. 24, from 3-8 p.m. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Hawkins of NewSong Community Church officiating. The family received friends on Tuesday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial followed in Brookside Cemetery.
