TPS supt. presents strategic plan

At the Monday, Sept. 14 Tecumseh School Board meeting, Supt. Kelly Coffin presented the board with the 2015-2016 strategic plan. Beginning in August 2013, Tecumseh Public Schools’ (TPS) strategic plan serves as the district’s goals over the course of the plan, which lasts three to five years. In September 2013, 10 goal areas were developed for the strategic plan and adopted shortly thereafter by the board. The Strategic Planning Committee met last month to review the district’s goals and progress. Original goals focused on eight areas: • Instruction and Curriculum• School and Community Relations• Finances and Budget• Marketing• Facilities and Resources• Human Resources• Leadership• Vision for the FutureAt the August meeting in 2013, the committee highlighted several points of progress with the district’s goals. A facilities utilization plan had been introduced. A multi-tier system of support for students was established at the elementary school level. Partnerships with with community organizations were strengthened. A system was developed where all staff are now included in quality professional development. And a system was implemented to track students entering and leaving the district. The committee hopes to help increase student enrollment, maintain relevant curriculum and technology to prepare students to live in a diverse and global society, and ensure all current and future buildings and facilities are safe and secure, energy efficient, adequately maintained, structurally sound, and barrier free. Going forward, the Strategic Planning Committee plans to focus on facility utilization, continue marketing efforts, implement a multi-tier system of support at the middle and high school, develop health and wellness awareness, formalize the hiring process, and review and refine the district-wide communication plan. The goal committees will continue to meet over the next school year updating the board monthly on their progress. A progress report will be generated twice a year and a formal review of the district’s strategic plan goals will happen in August 2016.
