Two veterans presented with special honors at Memorial Day ceremony at Brookside Cemetery

A special presentation was made during the Tecumseh Memorial Day Remembrance to Second Lieutenant Lucy J. Geringer (Dell), R.N., 90, who served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater and won the WWII Bronze Star and other medals, and Major John Gialanella, 97, who was called into the U.S. Army just after Pearl Harbor was bombed. John fought with the 306th field artillery attached to the 77th Division, fighting on Shima Island off Okinawa, and also in the recapture of Guam. He also won a Bronze Star.
