Voters support bond election to fix streets

Locally, GOP candidates cruised to victory in Tuesday’s, Nov 4, general election, with 29,392 ballots cast out of 75,612 registered voters in Lenawee County. Republican and incumbent candidate Tim Walberg is heading back to the U.S. House of Representatives after receiving 118,715, or 53 percent of votes.Pam Byrnes, Democrat, garnered 41 percent of votes, 91,403, while Ken Proctor, Libertarian, David Swartout, Independent, and Rick Strawcutter, U.S. Taxpayers, received 4,505, 4,325, and 3,113 votes, respectively. In Lenawee County, voters gave Walberg, Byrnes, Proctor, Strawcutter, and Swartout 15,362, 11,987, 476, 722, 299 votes, respectively. Dale Zorn, Republican, received 38,445 votes over Doug Spade’s, Democrat, 34,704, and Jeff Andring’s, U.S. Taxpayers, 2,040 for the District 17 State Senate seat. In the county, Spade received 14,694 votes while Zorn garnered 13,539 votes. Andring received 662 votes. There were 18 write-in votes from county voters. For State House District 57, Republican and incumbent Nancy Jenkins seized 59 percent of votes, 15,421 in total. Challenger and Democrat Sharon Wimple received 10,932 votes. Mike Slusarski trumped Richard A. Youtsey 18,022 to 9,985 for Lenawee County Road Commissioner. David Stimpson, unchallenged, remains Lenawee County Commissioner for District 1. In District 7 for county commissioner, Republican Robert Knoblauch beat Democrat Stephanie Thompson 2,287 to 1,279. Chris Wittenbach is District 8’s county commissioner. TecumsehCity of Tecumseh residents will have a new tax next year after the city’s bond proposal to allow the city to borrow $2.25 million for the purpose of installing, improving, replacing and reconstructing streets and sidewalks in the city passed 1,542 to 1,161.Tecumseh Public Schools’ renewal of the operating millage passed as well with 3,407 votes in support and 2,336 votes cast against the proposal.Jack Baker is Tecumseh’s mayor, while Gary Fox, Stephanie Harmon and Ronald Wimple, an incumbent, are city council members. Current Tecumseh School Board members Deborah J. Johnson-Berges, Jimmie Rice and Edward W. Tritt were reelected. District Library Board Members for Tecumseh are Charles F. Gehrke, Stanley M. Legenc, Matthew P. Linke and Jane Poczatek.ClintonDoris A Kemmer, Bonnie L. Peters and Timothy P. Waters remain Village of Clinton Trustees. Shirley S. Campbell, Tamara Forro, Frances Faye Gamboe and Mary D. Houghton have been elected to the Smith-Kimball Board.Jeff Clark and Dale Wingerd remain on the Clinton School Board, receiving 826 and 749 votes, respectively, beating Raymond Drew, 400 votes, and Terrence Strand, 376 votes. Wanda Heinz and Kevin Kelly were elected to two, two-year terms on the school board.Kelley Schmidt, incumbent, and write-in candidate Kevin Ward, were elected to the board’s two, four-year terms. Ward beat Mark Smith 579 to 533 votes cast. Clinton Schools’ operating millage renewal passed 1,217 to 465.Britton DeerfieldBritton Deerfield Schools’ proposal to renew the district’s operating millage passed 768 to 401. Benjamin Allshouse, Douglas Mayher, Yvonne Thomas were elected to Britton Deerfield School Board. Richard Frazier was voted as president for Britton Village Council while Chastity Gray was voted in for a two-year term as treasurer.Sharon Smith and Carl Bower were voted in for two of three four-year terms as trustees, with the remaining seat to be filled by appointment. Ridgeway TownshipThe renewal of a 1-mill proposal for road and bridge maintenance passed 337 to 179.
