Walberg offered budget that would have kept government open
To the Editor,
Concerning the government shutdown, Representative Tim Walberg and the House Republicans offered a budget that would have kept every government agency open and working. That budget did not provide funds to further implement the unaffordable Affordable Care Act better known as Obamacare.
Why was such a budget proposed? The intent of Walberg and the House was to keep the government working and at the same time protect the jobs and income of the American people. Why do the jobs and income need to be protected? People are finding that because of Obamacare, their premiums are rising 20-80 percent. Many workers are losing 25 percent of their income by having their hours cut to 30 per week because their employer cannot afford the higher insurance premiums for the insurance that is required to be provided for full time employees. Those whose hours are cut need to find another part time job because they cannot afford the higher costs with lower incomes. There are not enough part time jobs to meet the needs of the work force.
Why were parts of the government shut down? President Obama ordered the shutdowns as a way to leverage and blame Walberg and the Republicans for the inconveniences and fears that he has caused. It is his way of intimidating the House and even the American people to go along with this devastating law.
What has the House done to get some of the essential parts of government reopened? The House has passed bills (check congressional records) that would reopen the National Institute of Health, ensure that the National Guard and reserves receive their pay, and fund veteran’s benefits. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid would not even bring those bills before the Senate for discussion. He chose to use the military, veterans, and the sick as leverage to try to fund Obamacare that even people who were involved in its writing are calling it a TRAINWRECK.
Recent polls show that 70 to 80 percent of the American people are opposed to Obamacare. That opposition has grown because the American people are finding out just how bad Obamacare really is. Representative Walberg and others in the House did the right thing to fund the government and defund Obamacare.
