Well-attended concerts show ‘obvious appreciation’ for local talent

To the Editor,Were you as proud of Tecumseh as I was these past two weekends? With two marvelous home-grown shows at the Tecumseh Center for the Arts (TCA), we were able to enjoy high quality programming with a small, personal investment for tickets. Both shows played to near-capacity audiences who showed their obvious appreciation for what’s offered here. The Tecumseh Pops Orchestra and Community Chorus fielded nearly a hundred people on stage and presented one of their finest performances ever! (Weren’t you pleased to know that those two vocal soloists are teaching our kids to sing at Tecumseh Middle School and Tecumseh High School? Both were tremendous!) And to think that this show which represents 1,500 man-hours of rehearsal time, $10,000 investment in rent, royalties, advertising, etc., could be available for $10 or less. That’s a fifty-dollar show in many theaters. We’re only able to do it because of the generous support of our friends, businesses, and foundations. Word had obviously gotten around that this is a fine evening of entertainment as a gift to the city. Then the TCA Big Band put on its fabulous Christmas concert this Sunday to another large audience. Many of these band members are professional musicians who make their living leading bands, but they have fun in playing together for our enjoyment. It’s great to see the community show its support by huge attendance numbers. Where else can you see a show like this for only $5? We should have standing room only for the spring concerts of both of these groups. Thanks so much.Jim and Lois WilliamsTecumseh
